Konstanty Gebert, moderator: Professor Joanna Tokarska-Bakir

Perpetrators of genocide as moral people. Konstanty Gebert, the author of a book published this year and called Ostateczne rozwiązania (Final Solutions) in an interview with prof. Joanna Tokarska-Bakir.
The book describes the genocides of the past 120 years, from the slaughter of the Herero and Nama people in Namibia by Germany to the latest “genocide without massacre” committed by China on the Uighurs. Gebert shows their similarities with the better known genocides: the Holocaust, the slaughter of the Armenians and the Tutsis. He argues that the perpetrators of genocides do not take pleasure in someone else’s suffering, but have a Promethean vision of a better world that is to come after the genocide. Prof. Joanna Tokarska-Bakir, an outstanding researcher of anti-Semitism and its practical consequences will hold a discussion with him. Her monographic work on the Kielce pogrom “Pod klątwą” (The Cursed) was published in 2018.
