Gihon – The Source of Life (PL/ EN)
02.07.2022 - 18:00 / Festival Tent, ul. Józefa | Live: 31.jewishfestival.plWater is the keeper of memory, and I am not just talking about molecular memory. One of the richest archives of memory of Jerusalem’s history is the Gihon Spring and the Pool of Siloam. True, King David conquered the Jebusite stronghold some 3,000 years ago, but the settlement itself, and then the city called Yerushalayim, is well over five thousand years old.
Probably just as old, if not older, is the Gihon spring, which is still flowing today.
Without this spring, it is impossible to imagine that the city could have been founded there and life would have thrived. So if there is any holiness there, water is where it comes from. I will take you to a spring rich in legends and true stories, with the Bible in one hand and light in the other hand, we will enter Hezekiah’s Tunnel, the peacefully flowing waters will take us to the Pool of Siloam, where until recently, only a few thousand years ago, pilgrims used to immerse themselves to cleanse their bodies and souls.
Singing the Psalms of Ascension, step by step they climbed the stone road to Mount Moriah, where the Temple of Jerusalem shone between heaven and earth.
